Umpiring lacrosse at the youth level is a great way to get outside, earn some money, and give back to the great sport of lacrosse. High school-aged umpires, called “associate officials” or “AO”, can generally work games at the younger (U9 and U11) age levels. College-aged umpires and adults can cover games at all levels of youth lacrosse.
The organization that oversees officials of the men’s game in our area is Eastern Massachusetts Lacrosse Officials Association (www.emloa.org). The contact person for boys’ youth lacrosse is Darrell Benson, email address is .
If you know of anyone - friends, family, former players, coaches, etc. - who would be interested in becoming a lacrosse official, please forward their names and email addresses to as soon as possible. Classes begin the last week of January and we still need more officials in nearly every area, but most pressing in Central MA, south coast and Cape Cod areas. We have about 50 new candidates in the pipeline right now and are always looking for a few more.
Any of the newer officials are encouraged to attend one or more of the classes (no charge) as a refresher for the 2015 season.
New Candidates Classes for 2015 will start up in January, 2015. All classes start at 6:30 pm.
